the drip of requirement

just a little bit more...just a little bit more. i itch deep inside for the light i see at the end of the tunnel. slowly, so slowly, i reach out for it...just like a slow motion pic...it's just within my reach. i stretch. stretch my arm out as far as i can go...the light's rays shine through my fingers. it's rays blind my eyes. it's teasing me from my current darkness...and i am enticed. ugh. i feel as if i'm stuck. like i'm lying on the ground and my back is planted deep within its earth. flat. stuck. it's just my right arm outstretched in front of me...trying in vain to grasp the light. i struggle...wriggle...and exhaust myself from exertion. oh wait, i am stuck. itch. itch. i try again. stretch...stretch...maybe by some insane miracle i'll get to the light. frustration. oh light, my light...my light of sweet surrendered freedom...you seem so near yet so far. break. rest.
i look around...from my bed of earth i realize i am in a cave. it's stalactites gleam over me like sharp pikes ready to impale...i hear the calcium drip ever so slowly. drip. drip. drip. aside from that it's nothing but silence...my thoughts reverberate off the walls. silence, space...cavernous space with gleaming stalactites. drip. drip. drip. the cold earthen floor is soft...cooling actually in it's own earthy way. i close my eyes. even in my dreams i see the light. such sweet surrender...
drip. drip. drip. my eyelids flutter like wings of a newly born butterfly. open. the incessant dripping wakes me from my sweet short-lived slumber of freedom. drip. drip. drip. reality. damn.

i have to do something about that drip...
